Zurab Japaridze, the leader of the Girchi - For More Freedom party, assesses the signing of the EU-brokered document by the Georgian Dream as a "PR step”.
As Japaridze stated on PalitraNews TV, the signing of the document by the ruling team is just a demonstration as if they are ready to do something that is written in the document. According to Zurab Japaridze, the opposition will not sign the document, as "the signing would be capitulation."
"I do not think anyone from the opposition will sign this document, including because there are two points that are unacceptable to the opposition - political prisoners and re-elections. The signing of the document by the ruling team is just a demonstration as if they are ready to do something that is written in the document, while there is not much written in the document. They know for sure that the opposition will not sign this document. Consequently, their only goal is to portray themselves as a positive and constructive party”, said Japaridze.
The Georgian Dream signed the document drawn up under the auspices of European Council President Charles Michel, which was submitted by his special envoy Christian Danielsson. The document was signed by the Chairman of the Georgian Dream, Irakli Kobakhidze, and the Speaker of the Parliament, Archil Talakvadze.
