The trial of Nika Melia is underway in the Tbilisi City Court. Melia is not present at the trial.
The state prosecution is requesting the replacement of the 40,000 GEL bail imposed on the accused as a measure of restraint.
The court will reconsider the application of the measure of restraint - bail - towards Nika Melia.
The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia applied to Tbilisi City Court with a motion to change the measure of restraint yesterday.
According to prosecutor Mikheil Sadradze, the Prosecutor's Office demands the use of a more severe measure of restraint against Melia - detention, as it is a proportionate measure.
"We believe that the motion is absolutely substantiated, there is simply no other way legally than the use of detention, therefore, our request is justified, legal, but, naturally, the decision is up to the court. We have reasonable expectations," Sadradze said.
The Prosecutor's Office decided to file a motion for pre-trial detention after the politician refused to pay bail - 40 thousand GEL. The Prosecutor's Office was given permission to request Melia's detention by Parliament, which stripped the opposition lawmaker of immunity by 88 votes yesterday.
