Nikoloz Samkharadze: Nika Melia has freedom and a wonderful opportunity not to go to prison next week

12.02.21 14:20

Nika Melia has freedom and a wonderful opportunity not to go to prison from next week, - Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, told journalists.

Samkharadze emphasizes that Nika Melia's case is a purely legal issue and the law specifies what kind of procedures both the prosecutor's office and Nika Melia must go through.

"As for Mamuka Mdinaradze's briefing, it was conditioned by Melia's statement that the Georgian Dream was going to pay bail, which is completely absurd. The "National Movement" may think that Nika' Melia's case works for their advantage to present themselves as a victim. They will also try to convicne the international partners that opposition leaders in Georgia are being persecuted on baseless charges. This is their main plan and task", - Samkharadze said.

For information, according to Nika Melia, Chairman of the United National Movement, he is not going to pay the bail. As he said at yesterday's special briefing, the payment of bail would be a shame and a crime, because "the case against him is fabricated." He also appealed to the Bank of Georgia, saying that if the the bail was paid for him, it would be a violation of his rights.

Mamuka Mdinaradze, Chairman of the Georgian Dream faction, made a statement after Nika Melia's briefing. He said that Nika Melia's statement was once again a confirmation of cowardice and an attempt to deceive the public.

For the record, the 30,000 GEL bail deadline for Melia expires today.
