CEC to provide voters with face masks on election day

08.09.20 17:50

According to CEC spokesperson Ana Mikeladze, the election administration recommends that voters in quarantined areas have the opportunity to participate in the elections.

According to Mikeladze, specialists, observer organizations and political parties will be involved in the decision-making process regarding this issue.

"It is possible that there were COVID infected patients in the quarantine areas who would not have any symptoms. In this case, the election administration will have to make certain differentiation, but the main aspect is to note that a decision has not been made yet. Specialists, political parties and observer organizations will be involved in any decision upon the participation of COVID infected patients in the elections. It should be emphasized that elections should be conducted in a health-safe environment. Every citizen should have the right to take part in the elections, but at the same time the people who are involved in this process should be taken into account. These are: members of the district election commission, observers, representatives of political parties, the media. Consequently, each issue should be discussed in a manner to reach a general consensus", - said Ana Mikeladze.

According to Mikeladze, a polling station may be opened in the quarantine zones and it is also possible to have a mobile ballot box. As Mikeladze explained, the decision depends on the number of voters in the quarantine zones.

At the same time, according to the CEC spokesperson, a voter who does not have a personal ID card will not be able to enter the polling station.

"The election administration will provide the voters with a face mask. We also work to be able to offer an individual pen to each voter. Election commission members will be equipped with appropriate face shields in addition to face masks and disposable gloves. A special solution will be systematically applied to the building of the district election commission", - said Ana Mikeladze.
