Amiran Gamkrelidze: We must realize that the coronavirus remains and has not yet disappeared - unless something special happens, there will be no state of emergency

"Unless something special happens, there will be no discussion about any closures or tightening of measures", - Amiran Gamkrelidze, director of the National Center for Disease Control, told the reporters.

According to Gamkrelidze, the society should get used to coexisting with the coronavirus.

"This is a global policy that is our main slogan - to learn to coexist with the coronavirus. Coronavirus infection will not disappear in one month or five months. About 1 year, or a year and a half we will have to live with it just like we live with flu, diabetes, other diseases, - in those case we are not closing the country, are we? We must realize that this disease has appeared, exists and will not be eradicated yet, unless there is a direct-acting etiotropic drug or vaccine. Unless something special happens, there will be no discussion about any closures or tightening of measures, I mean a state of emergency. With advanced testing we can identify and isolate these people in a timely manner. As for the tightening of micro-measures, which were used in Mestia, Karajala, Bolnisi and elsewhere, of course, it is possible, but not to the extent to discuss closing down of Batumi or Adjara", - stated Amiran Gamkrelidze.
