Roman Gotsiridze: It is a mistake to think that Georgian Dream will suddenly use common sense and refuse to bribe, intimidate, threaten or use administrative resources

Roman Gotsiridze, Chairman of the United National Movement faction, says that the amendments proposed by the Georgian Dream are already reflected in the legislation.

According to him, the amendments are only tightening the already existing regulations, which cannot prevent violations.

“The amendments proposed by the Georgian Dream are already reflected in the legislation. The only novelty is that the existing norms will be tightened and all kinds of intimidation, influence and threats related to the election process will be added to the article, but it does not change anything. Yes, we can add them, but it will not change anything.

It is a mistake to think that if we write two or three years instead of one year in the law, the Georgian Dream will suddenly use common sense and refuse to bribe, intimidate, threaten or use administrative resources," Gotsiridze said.

According to him, they are going to submit alternative amendments concerning several important issues, including the mechanisms of preventing threats and intimidation.

The Parliament adopted amendments to the Election Code in the first reading yesterday. According to the bill, unlawful influence on the will of a voter through bribery, intimidation or threats is punishable by a fine, house arrest from 6 months to 2 years or up to 3 years in prison.
