According to the German government, Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny was poisoned with a sustance called "Novichok", - reports BBC.

 

According to the same source, a toxicological study conducted in a military laboratory showed "unequivocal evidence" from a group of nerve agents of "Novichok".

 

The German government condemns the attack and calls on Russia for an immediate explanation.

 

"It is a disturbing development that Alexei Navalny was the victim of a chemical nerve agent in Russia", - it was said in the statement.

 

BBC also notes that German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with the ministers to discuss further steps.

 

For the record, on August 20, when returning to Moscow from the city of Tomsk, Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny fell ill on a plane. The plane was forced to land in the city of Omsk. Navalny was later transferred from Omsk Hospital to Berlin for treatment.
