The European Union (EU) has called on Moscow to let Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny get medical treatment in Germany, as well as a probe into his suspected poisoning, said a Commission spokeswoman.

Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny is in critical condition in Omsk hospital. Members of his team say the politician was poisoned.

Navalny’s wife Yulia Navalnaya has published a letter urging Vladimir Putin to allow him to leave the country. “Alexei Navalny needs qualified medical care in Germany,” she wrote.

The letter was published on Navalny’s Twitter account.
