Sergey Shamba says dialogue is necessary with Georgia

20.08.20 18:00

Sergey Shamba, Secretary of the so-called National Security Council of occupied Abkhazia, believes that a dialogue is necessary with the Georgian side to resolve the conflict.

"As a person who has been involved in politics for many years and as a diplomat, I know one thing for sure that if there is a conflict, it is necessary to talk. I do not understand the logic of those who say that there is a conflict and there is no need to talk. We need to talk and look for ways to regulate the issue. One thing can be said for sure that there are issues where compromise is impossible. This concerns the issues of sovereignty and independence of our country. We have to look for solutions to many other issues," said Sergei Shamba.

According to him, among the issues that can be discussed with Georgia are the agreement on non-resumption of hostilities, transit of cargo through Abkhazia and resumption of airport operations.

"It is necessary to talk about essential issues. Those who say that conversation is not necessary forget that there are some contacts and cooperation. For example, the Enguri HPP, or shadow trading that bypasses the Abkhazian budget, as there is smuggling and many other issues on the border with Georgia that need to be regulated," Shamba said.
