Tengiz Tsertsvadze: I hope Georgia won't allow a serious second wave

Tengiz Tsertsvadze, Head of the Center for Infectious Diseases and AIDS, hopes that Georgia will cope with the slight rise in COVID-19 numbers in a manner not to allow the emergence of a serious second wave.

As Tsertdvadze told the reporters, the rise in infection rate was inevitable.

"It was inevitable. This indicates that we are surrounded by countries where there is an infection peak with 500-600 confirmed cases on an everyday basis. No matter the type of measures taken, Georgia can't be isolated. The main source is truck drivers who can't be refused to enter due to existing transportation. Despite the fact that they are under strict control, it still spreads from them.

Now it's Gardabani where there were 10 patients today. The government, as always, took immediate measures. A massive checking has started in Gardabani and I hope that Georgia will cope with the slight rise in COVID-19 numbers in a manner not to allow the emergence of a serious second wave", - stated Tsertsvadze.

According to him, it's important for patients to get immediate treatment.

"Beforehand, the responsibility was shifted towards us, the clinical sector - the question was why did we activate communication, visits in the clinics - it's because when there is a rise, it's only slight and the load on clinical sector increases. It's our duty to provide these patients with on-time and effective help, in order to treat as many patients as possible, in order to prevent the slight rise from hindering our normal rhythm of everyday life to which Georgia has practically switched back to", - stressed Tsertsvadze.
