Georgia has exported about 700 tonnes of blueberries worth several million dollars this year, said Agriculture Minister Levan Davitashvili.

Blueberry plantations cover over 700 hectares of cultivated land in Georgia.

If the interest from farmers is maintained, we expect to export tens of millions of dollars worth of blueberries in the future,” said Davitashvili.

Davitashvili visited a new blueberry plantation in the village of Nosiri, Senaki municipality earlier today.

The company, Interagro, planted the blueberry plantation on 10 hectares. Under the state program Plant the Future, the company received 230,000 GEL in state funding for the cultivation of the plantation and irrigation system.

The company has received 500,000 GEL in preferential agricultural credit, while 200,000 GEL is an investment of the beneficiary.
