Giorgi Margvelashvili: It is very hard to watch how the Georgian policemen are abused

20.06.19 10:55

It is very hard to watch how the Georgian policemen are abused and this is hard for everyone regardless of his/her political opinion, - former president Giorgi Margvelashvili said when commenting on the events developed around Tbilisi Pride.

As Margvelashvili noted, the current situation was caused by the methodical weakening of state institutions.

"This methodical policy was directed not only towards the president's institution. All state institutions have been methodically weakened. One of the main things we have to protect is the Georgian state, state institutions and the Georgian police in the current situation, which is very hard to see. It is very hard to hear the rhetoric directed against the Georgian police.

The Georgian police officer is a defender of the Georgian state and order. Today the Georgian police needs our moral support and we should even physically stand beside them if there is such an unfortunate necessity.

I want everybody to know that steps taken against the Georgian police will always be followed by a big chaos in the country”, Margvelashvili said.
