Tbilisi Open Air fest postponed due to pandemic

The 2020 edition of the Tbilisi Open Air festival, promoted as the largest music event in the South Caucasus, has been postponed due to concerns around the new coronavirus pandemic.

The annual celebration of popular music, drawing internationally renowned and locally acclaimed artists and bands to the capital, had been scheduled to run in June.

Circumstances around the COVID-19 outbreak, however, have forced organizers to reconsider the possibility of hosting the gathering that brings tens of thousands of music fans together.

In a social media update on Thursday, the festival staff said moving the event to the second half of September was under consideration, with a new date set to be announced before June 25.

Ticket sales for the festival have been suspended, while those who already purchased access can either return their tickets or opt to use them for the postponed event.

Set to run at a location near the city's Lisi Lake recreational area, Tbilisi Open Air is to feature artists and bands including Bedford Falls, Apparrat and local favourites. About 45,000 music fans attended recent editions.
