Tengiz Tsertsvadze: The number of cases may start to decrease after a week

30.04.20 10:15

I think that in the next week or so, the incidence of coronavirus may increase, but the increase will not be dramatic, - Tengiz Tsertsvadze, director-general of the Infectious Diseases Hospital, said when asked if the country was at the peak of the epidemic.

According to him, "no one knows for sure and everyone makes just assumptions."

Tsertsvadze thinks the number of cases may start to decrease after a week.

"The increase will not be dramatic, there will be no hundreds of patients. There will again be two or three or four dozen of cases, which we’ve already had once or twice. We had a small peak, with 40 cases in a day so far. This is what I think, but I don’t know the opinion of my colleagues. They are more optimistic, they say we have already reached the peak, now there will be a plateau and then the number of cases will start to decrease. I think we may have an increase in the next week, but it will not be hundreds of cases. After that, there will be a plateau and then a decrease,” Tsertsvadze said.

According to Tsertsvadze, now there is a great risk in terms of easing the restrictions imposed within the framework of the state of emergency. As Tsertsvadze noted, the golden interval should be found so that the restrictions are eased, but at the same time, the epidemic does not turn back.

He once again called on the population to stay at home.
