In the month of June, the employees of the investigative service revealed 22 facts of illegal storage, transportation and sale of duty-free cigarettes.

 

The investigation service of the Ministry of Finance disseminates the information in this regard.

 

According to the information of the agency, 24 persons were charged as accused, and 10 of them were arrested.

 

"Employees of the investigative service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in the month of June 2024, as a result of the operational and search measures and investigative activities carried out throughout Georgia, revealed 22 facts of storage-transportation-sale of a large amount of excise goods subject to marking, without an excise stamp, for which, in the form of the accused, they are responsible 24 persons were given, 10 of them are detained.

 

As a result of investigative actions, a total of 29,918 boxes of duty-free cigarettes of different denominations intended for sale, whose total market value exceeds 155,000 GEL, were seized from the persons exposed in the crime.

 

The investigation is being conducted under Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment for a period of 6 to 8 years as a punishment," the agency said in the information.
