Latvian Foreign Minister: Georgia's pro-European path, pro-European future is facing a serious challenge

27.05.24 13:00

The Baltic countries, whose foreign ministers were in Georgia and talked to both the opposition and the position, sent a strong message that we support the pro-European choice of the Georgian people, - Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže told journalists before the start of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.

According to her, the government of Georgia was called to cancel the law "On transparency of foreign influence".

"We called for the law on transparency of foreign funding to be abolished. The President vetoed it and now it is the choice of the sovereign country, the Parliament and the Government of Georgia, how they will act. But I want to repeat that now Georgia's pro-European path, pro-European future is facing a serious challenge", she said.

For information, the Council of Foreign Affairs of the European Union will be held in Brussels today, which will be chaired by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and among other issues, the issue of Georgia will be discussed.
