Shalva Papuashvili: There is an acknowledgment from the partners that the funding is not transparent

03.04.24 16:26

There is an acknowledgment from the partners that the funding is not transparent, but we cannot go beyond that, - the Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili said while talking about the draft law on "transparency of external influence".

According to him, some foundations influence the formation of politics in Georgia with their funding and hide it from the public.

"All this is in the context of Georgia's security challenge. Let's see how we are in the region, look at what is happening around us and see what challenges Georgia's security has in different directions. Recently, when I spoke to our partners, they didn't even have an answer about opacity, which is why I say that we are at a deaf wall lately. When I talk about it, they agree and none of the partners can say that these are funds. They are transparent, but we can't get past that, even though we had it from our partners, it's a deaf wall, there's an acknowledgment that it's opaque, but we can't get past it, most importantly, it's not about us. We are talking about the society, in the end it turns out that there are foundations that influence the formation of politics in Georgia with their funding and hide it from the society", said Shalva Papuashvili.
