Nika Gvaramia: I am going to the UN Human Rights Committee with my case

29.03.24 10:04

I have made a decision and I am going to the UN Human Rights Committee with my case, - Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the "Akhali" political party, writes on the social network.

As Gvaramia writes, the mandate of the UN Human Rights Committee extends to the whole world and it is less interested in the decisions of the European Court.

"After consulting with my (surprised) American and British lawyers, I have made a decision and I am taking my case to the UN Human Rights Committee, whose mandate extends to the whole world and which has little interest in the decisions of the European Court. The decision of the committee is mandatory for Georgia, and in its practice there are many cases where the decision of Strasbourg (especially the decision of one judge on admissibility) is completely ignored and conclusions of other content are made.

There will be no further comments from me on this matter. If nothing else, it is a matter of legal ethics that I will not expand this issue further," Gvaramia writes.

For information, in connection with the "Rustavi2" case, the Human Rights Court of Strasbourg did not accept Nika Gvaramia's lawsuit for consideration. Gvaramia himself wrote about it on the social network.

Gvaramia appealed to the Strasbourg court after his claim was rejected by the Supreme Court, which upheld an appeals court decision that kept Nika Gvaramia in custody.
