Mikheil Saakshvili : I am ready to get involved in negotiation process in connection with Davit Gareji

Even under this government, I'm ready to get involved in the negotiation process with Azerbaijan, - former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili said during the Facebook live on Tuesday.

As Saakashvili noted, fundamental negotiations should be held and both sides should take each other's interests into consideration.

“The issue of Davit Gareji, like other issues, will be rapidly solved under the normal government. Now, prompt negotiations are the only way out. I am ready to get involved in the negotiation process. Of course, I have my ties in Azerbaijan…I am ready to be a mediator in the Davit Gareji issue and solve it even without having any position [in the government]. They [the Georgia authorities] cannot solve anything. Fundamental negotiations are necessary here. Both sides should take each other's interests into consideration, since, eventually, this is a relationship between people and this relationship should not be affected. Georgians and Azerbaijaninas are friendly nations and they have proved it many times during the nearest history,"Saakashvili said.

According to the ex-president, under his presidency, Georgia has brotherly relations with Azerbaijan.

“When I was the President of Georgia, we had brotherly relations with Azerbaijan. Do you know why? We never asked anything for our own pockets, we asked everything for our people. They respect neither Ivanishvili nor the government of Georgia, because Ivanishvili does not respect the Georgian institutes…Bidzina Ivanishvili and Ucha Mamatsashvili [Ivanishvili’s cousin] demand so-called “kickback” for everything from Azerbaijanis. These are not rumors. I know it exactly. When you demand money for your pocket from your neighbor, you should not be surprised when this neighbor does everything it wants and does not respect your interests,” Saakashvili said.
