Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of Georgian Dream, explains why the members of the majority elected the candidates nominated by the President as members of the Board of the National Bank.
As Kobakhidze told journalists, Salome Zurabishvili and the opposition wanted to sabotage the National Bank, the President asked the candidates to withdraw their candidacies, however, the issue in the National Bank has been resolved and its operation will no longer be threatened.
"We made a decision regarding the election of both members of the Board. Representatives of the opposition themselves proposed the explanation for this decision - representatives of the radical opposition first called on the President to withdraw the candidates, which she no longer had the right to do, otherwise she would probably do it. Then the Parliamentary Secretary of the President expressed the general view that it was better to discuss the matter later. It turns out that someone, I mean the radical opposition with its Salome Zurabishvili, was interested in sabotaging a specific constitutional body once again. What was their goal? By the end of the year, by the end of November, we would have three members left in the Board and the institution would not be able to continue its effective activities. When they go so openly to sabotage a constitutional body, everyone can see what their goal is. They are directly trying to take everything and everyone out of the constitutional framework, and once again this alliance has been exposed, the alliance between Salome Zurabishvili and the radical opposition. According to our information, candidates were summoned yesterday and asked to file a statement regarding refusal. What could be more sabotage and pressure than that?! This is the very unworthy behavior. One of the candidates said this and I was informed about it. It is an extremely dishonorable act when you reject your own nominated candidates for the sole reason of sabotaging the National Bank. The President of Georgia should not be like Salome Samadashvili.
I want to remind you one more thing - we made a harmless change and introduced the position of the first vice president. Do you remember how many stories were made about this? We had information about the vice presidents that at a critical moment they would go against this institution and the state. We had this information, that's why we made this change. Everything was exposed today, unfortunately, at a critical moment, all three vice-presidents went against the institution. The issue in the National Bank is over, because by the end of November, at least five members will be in the Board," said Kobakhidze.
