The Chisinau format of eliminating separatism!

02.06.23 10:50

A five-sided meeting and talks between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nicola Pashinyan, with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Stolz and EU Council President Charles Michel in the framework of the European Political Community summit in the Moldovan capital of Chisinau. The main issue of the meeting was the peaceful settlement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Considering that Aliyev and Pashinian had met a few days earlier in Moscow in the presence of Vladimir Putin, the meeting in Chisinau has symbolism - the settlement is once again being transferred "to the Western field".

The European Political Community (EPU) is an inter-state organisation established in May 2022 on the proposal of French President Emmanuel Macron - during the period when France held the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The leaders of the member states first met in Prague in October 2022. The ENP is a platform for political and strategic discussions on the future of Europe. The member states seek political cooperation to address issues of common interest and to promote stability and security.

Given that France is also the main lobbyist for Armenian interests on the international stage, Armenian nationalists and "Artsakh" separatists pinned certain hopes on a meeting within the European political community. They had hoped to the last that, through the efforts of France, the issue of the notorious 'status of Artsakh' or 'special rights' of the Karabakh Armenians would somehow be brought forward at such meetings.  However, in Chisinau their hopes were not justified. There was no mention of Karabakh Armenians, let alone 'Artsakh', at the end of the meeting. And the European and world community finally decided that everything to do with Karabakh is an internal affair of Azerbaijan.

After the five-sided meeting in Chisinau, Charles Michel announced that the next meeting in the format Aliyev-Michel-Pashinian will take place on 21 June 2023 in Brussels, and then there will be a meeting at the third summit of the European political community.

Michel said the sides are working intensively on normalising relations and plan to meet again in this format in Spain, "We had an opportunity to discuss all the issues that were previously raised in Brussels in May. We were able to discuss border delimitation, the preparation of a peace agreement, and this meeting was an excellent preparation for the planned meeting in Brussels on 21 July.

Michel noted that the Council of the European Union aims to continue to support the normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia: "During the meeting it was also announced that we will meet again in a five-sided format on the margins of the third summit of the European political community in Spain.

The event is scheduled for October. European leaders are invited by the Spanish authorities to the city of Granada (a very symbolic place - the former capital of the Muslim Emirate of Granada),

As for the current, second ENP summit, the fact that the Aliyev-Pashinian-Michel-Macron-Stoltz meeting was held in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, a country, like Azerbaijan and Georgia, affected by separatism, had no less symbolic significance. We are talking about separatist Transnistria, whose fake "independence", like the regimes in Sukhumi and Tskhinvali, is recognised by the Armenian "Artsakh" separatists.

Within the framework of the Azerbaijani leader's working visit to Chisinau, Ilham Aliyev also met with President Maya Sandu of Moldova. The meeting emphasised Azerbaijan's and Moldova's continued support for each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty. In other words, there should be no "Artsakh" and "Transnistria" in the territories of Azerbaijan and Moldova.

Moreover, during the five-sided meeting in Chisinau, but outside of it, "informal" information was disseminated that one of the separatist projects - the Transnistrian one - had already signed a "verdict".  According to this information, Moldovan President Maia Sandu agrees that, if necessary, Moldova will give its territory to the Ukrainian army, which can thus enter Transnistria and liquidate this ugly separatist entity held by "Russian bayonets" (which are isolated from Russia).

"Russia never took our country seriously - we were some former Soviet republic to them, where for some reason they could station troops and even a warehouse with weapons (Meaning the military warehouses in Colbasna, controlled by Transnistrian separatists and Russian "peacekeepers").

The following statement by Maia Sandu was circulated: "If the Ukrainian army needs it - we are ready to give the right to enter our territory to deal with warehouses, weapons and personnel. This is a gesture of alliance."

This information was disseminated by many online resources. In particular, the well-known separatist Igor Girkin (Strelkov) also published it in his telegram channel. But, after a very short time, he issued a denial: "The news about Moldova's readiness to give its territory to the AFU in the war with Russia - demolished as fake with very high probability. I apologise to readers." - Girkin wrote.

We should remind you that it was Igor Strelkov-Girkin who personally took part in the separatist Transnistrian war in his youth. He was also behind the start of the separatist war in the Ukrainian Donbass as the so-called "Minister of Defence of the DPR" in 2014. He was then removed from Donbass by the Russian handlers of separatism but left alive. Igor Strelkov (Girkin) is not only still alive, but openly "fronting" the Kremlin and no one touches him, although the mass of separatist leaders have long since been liquidated by the FSB. Strelkov-Girkin is also not touched by the Western intelligence services. Apparently, they expect to use him as a witness against the Kremlin leadership if the case comes to trial in The Hague.

Meanwhile, the fact that the separatist Strelkov-Girkin disseminated information about the Moldovan president's intention to end separatism in Transnistria with the help of Ukraine just as the attention of the Artsakh separatists was riveted on the meeting in Chisinau and then quickly "refuted" it - indicates that this information was not quite a fake. It was thrown in to let both the Kremlin and the separatists dependent on it (Transnistrian, "Artsakh", etc.) know that the game of "independent states" with the help of the Russian military will be over.

So far the Armenian "Artsakh" separatists are demonstratively rejecting the proposals of the Azerbaijani authorities on dialogue and solution of issues of integration of Karabakh Armenians into Azerbaijan - such issues as dissolution of fake separatist "authorities", surrender of weapons by separatist gangs, issues of amnesty to separatists, etc. They still do not want to understand that separatism is doomed and betting on it makes them complete marginalized. Especially when one considers that they are relying on the aggressor country, Russia, to the last resort.

However, such hope, as recent events have shown, will not save the already doomed Transnistrian separatist project. Nor will it save the "Artsakh" project. After all, to eliminate it it is not necessary to invite the Ukrainian army - the Azerbaijani army is quite enough.
