The President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili apologized to the families of Giorgi Antsukhelidze and Giga Ochtozoria at the event dedicated to the country's Independence Day.
As Zurabishvili mentioned during his speech, today is the day when we should think about everything, look for a solution and regain hope for the future.
"From this platform, I would like to address the families of Giorgi Antsukhelidze and Giga Okhtozoria. I, as the commander-in-chief of this country, apologize for the insult, which is not only an insult to you, but to the entire country. It is incomprehensible when you blame Europe and America for everything, for the attempt to open a second front, for taking away Georgian identity, for depravity, and yet you allow your own children to live in Europe and America, while destroying the European future for the new generation in Georgia. Today is the day when we should think about all this, look for a solution and regain hope for the future. Hate speech and confrontation have replaced mutual understanding and respect, this weakens the state. We should also remember Vazha's other words - "When the castle breaks from the inside, then the enemy wins". This is where is see the danger of losing our Georgian identity, by our own hands and by our own will. How can a nation with our history believe that Russia's politics can depend on anyone's good or bad behavior, or any good or bad statement, or anything but their own interest? Did anything depend on Ukraine when Russia started the war? Anyone who thinks that Russia will return territories to us in exchange for our concessions, has not learned anything from our history. Or again, how can we believe that the occupier can care about the well-being of our fellow citizens? Do we forget who harasses and kidnaps our citizens in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali? Today, we can clearly see who is trying to occupy Ukraine, and we also see that the world is changing, the myth of Russia's invincibility has been shattered, and there should be no more occupied territories in tomorrow’s geopolitical space. Today is May 26 and I want to wish victory and unity of the country to our Ukrainian friends ", Zurabishvili said.
