According to the Chairman of the National Movement Levan Khabeishvili, the reputation of Georgia is significantly damaged in the conditions when the third president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, is in captivity.
At a briefing held in the party, Levan Khabeishvili responded to the presentation of a prize to Mikheil Saakashvili in Norway for his fight for human rights and democracy, and noted that Saakashvili is locked in prison in order to please Putin, Lavrov and Bidzina Ivanishvili.
"Yesterday, President Saakashvili was awarded a prize in Norway for the development of democracy. It’s a very important award, which was also received by Maia Sandu. Yesterday, society once again saw how Georgia's reputation is damaged in the conditions when President Saakashvili is in captivity. During the presentation of this award, they openly talked about the developments in Georgia, that there is a Russian government and that the opposition and people are fighting against the government controlled by the Kremlin. Yesterday's day and the award are another proof that President Saakashvili is locked in prison in order to please Putin, Salaviov, Lavrov and Bidzina Ivanishvili," Khabeishvili said.
According to him, in the conditions when the French President calls on the authorities to release President Saakashvili and the EU countries have the same call, Georgia's reputation is being damaged every day.
"When we want to get the candidate status, but the civilized world sees that there is a Russian government in Georgia, managed by the Kremlin, and they see the imprisonment of President Saakashvili as one of the main manifestations of this. We should understand well that this is not a narrow-partisan matter, it is not a matter of one person, it is a matter of national interests of our country. When we talk about the implementation of the 12 points, the freedom of President Saakashvili is important, just like the freedom of Nika Gvaramia. Therefore, I would like to once again appeal to the government and the public, if the government does not take a decision in the near future so that the reputation of our country and our people is not damaged and if they do not take drastic steps to receive the candidate status, then we, the Georgian people, will have to fight together to protect our European future. Therefore, on April 9, at 17:00, we are waiting for you all on Rustveli", said Khabeishvili.
