Don't adopt the Russian law - with this text, more than 200 professors-teachers and scientific workers of 26 accredited universities of Georgia appeal to the Members of Parliament of Georgia and call on them not to support the foreign agent bills.

The appeal of the lecturers was handed over to the Members of Parliament of Georgia today.

According to the statement, the draft law damages the state interests of Georgia.

"Discussion of draft laws of Russian content has begun in the Parliament of Georgia, which destroys the possibility of our country to become a part of the European space. The attempt to pass the Russian law is directed not only against the free civil society, organizations and the media, but also against the population of Georgia.

Integration into the European and Euro-Atlantic structures is the will of the Georgian people, which is reflected in the Constitution. The constitutional bodies, within their powers, should do everything for the full integration of Georgia in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, according to the Constitution.

Such a law is not applied in any European country and it damages our state interests. International organizations and embassies of democratic countries operating in Georgia have issued a number of statements about this. The diplomats of the friendly countries have personally met with the government representatives and urged them not to pass the Russian law, which would endanger the country's Euro-Atlantic future and democratic development.

Today, when Georgia is waiting for a historic decision on receiving the status of a candidate country of the European Union, the adoption of the Russian law is already working against the interests of the country, endangering the centuries-old aspiration of the Georgian nation - to become a European country.

We, professors and scientists, feel a responsibility to the generations whose future may be irreversibly damaged by the adoption of this law, as well as by all those who will vote for the bill. Therefore, we remind you that with your wrong choice, you will be responsible for creating a threat to the Euro-Atlantic future of Georgia.

We urge you not to support the Russian law, to protect the Constitution of Georgia and the unwavering will of the citizens of Georgia - to make our country a part of the European space," reads the appeal.
