“I believe the historic process which acquired an irreversible character one year ago, will soon result in  Georgia’s full-fledged membership of the European Union,” said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in connection with one-year anniversary of Georgia’s official application for EU membership.

According to the PM, Georgia is a European country with its history, culture and values, and Georgia, with its large-scale, speedy and quality reforms deserves recognition. EU expansion is a merit-based process and this gives hope to Georgia and Georgian people, he said.

“Today, one year turned from the historic day when Georgia officially applied for EU membership. On March 3, 2022, I had the honor to sign the document which reflects the centuries-long dream and aspirations of Georgian people.

This day marks a new page in our history. The recognition of the European Council of Georgia’s European perspective drew us closer to the membership of the European community of free nations.

In the past year, we activated efforts to reach the goal, which defines our history and guides activities of our government. We took all steps in line with European lifestyle and standards, institutional and legislative arrangement and fulfilment of the taken commitments.

We have always felt the support of our people in this process, which is a great impetus for the daily activities of the government and entire political team. We are grateful to our European friends, governments and peoples of partner states, which stood with us on the path of turning this goal into a reality,” the PM said.
