Citizens nominate Levan Ioseliani as candidate for Public Defender's position

The Citizens party will nominate one of the leaders of the party, Levan Ioseliani, as a candidate for Public Defender.

 

Aleko Elisashvili announced the above at the briefing held in the Parliament.

 

According to Elisashvili, the selection of the Public Defender by consensus is important and it is part of the 12 points defined for Georgia, which the country must fulfill in order to obtain candidate status.

 

Elisashvili believes that Ioseliani has the resources to get 90 supporting votes in the Parliament.

 

According to him, he had some consultations with the opposition and the ruling party.

 

"Our party made a very difficult decision for me, but I am deeply convinced that it is the right one for the country. Even in this Parliament, there are only a few people, or maybe only one, around whom a consensus is possible. Such is my friend, teammate, one of the leaders of our party, Levan Ioseliani, who has the skills, knowledge and ability to get 90 votes and more. He is a person who can build a consensus. No matter how difficult it is for me and our party, I must present Levan Ioseliani as a candidate for Public Defender. Levan was a lawyer before he got involved in politics, and human rights is a familiar topic to him," said Elisashvili.
