Georgian FM meets UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Monday met with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk.

 

According to the Georgian MFA, the duo welcomed Georgia’s membership in the UN Human Rights Council for the period of 2023-2025 and emphasized Georgia’s fruitful activity in fulfilling the Council’s main principles and tasks.

 

The discussion also touched on the difficult situation in the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia and stressed the Commissioner’s key role in keeping this very issue on the international agenda.

 

The Minister also expressed his readiness to host the High Commissioner in Georgia, the MFA added.

 

Earlier, Ilia Darchiashvili delivered a speech at the 52nd session of the high-level segment of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Switzerland.
