As a result of consultations with the leaders of the Georgian Dream faction, the members of People's Power agreed that in the coming days, committee and plenary debates will be held on the bills "On Registration of Foreign Agents" and "On Transparency of Foreign Influence" and they will support both bills in the first reading, after which both documents will be sent to Venice Commission, Dimitri Khundadze stated at the briefing held in the Parliament.

According to him, the Venice Commission will be requested to present the conclusion in an accelerated manner so that the draft law can be adopted in all three readings during the current session.

"Before the adoption in the first reading, some technical corrections will be made in the Georgian version and the circle of agents of foreign influence will be specified. For example, the law will not apply to authorized educational institutions, medical institutions, etc. As soon as the first reading is accepted, both the Georgian and the American project will be sent to the Venice Commission. Based on the fact that we want to pass the law in all three readings by the end of the current session, we request the Venice Commission to present the conclusion in an accelerated manner. We will support them in accordance with their recommendations and we will adopt the Georgian or American version of the draft law in three readings by the end of June. The leaders of Georgia­n Dream fully share the opinion that the transparency of financing of agents of foreign influence is a necessary condition for the protection of state sovereignty and proper functioning of the democratic system," said Khundadze.
