False information [regarding the circumvention of sanctions] is deliberately being spread, which is based on political interests - we must oppose such political interests in order to protect the national interests of Georgia, - Georgian Dream chairman Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.
According to him, it is unacceptable when such an accusation is made against Georgia without any basis.
"Unfortunately, false information has been spread several times in the media, including at a high level, in the international media, as if sanctioned products are being imported into the Russian Federation through Georgia, which we have repeatedly proven to be a lie. Later, this question was voiced on the air of CNN by one of the most famous journalists. Naturally, it is unacceptable for us when such accusations are made against Georgia without any basis, we need to defend our positions. Today, I posted a statement which, at the level of statistics, unmistakably confirms that there is no circumvention of sanctions through Georgia. We are talking about the statistics related to exports, which show that not only there was no disproportionate increase in exports from Georgia to the Russian Federation, but the growth in exports was much lower than in the case of other partner countries. Therefore, it is clear that false information is being deliberately spread, which is naturally based on political interests. We must oppose such political interests in order to protect the national interests of Georgia.
We have often talked about the fact that there are global interests in relation to Georgia, including relating to the second front. Naturally, it is in the interests of the relevant forces to damage Georgia's image as much as possible. The goal is to weaken the state, to weaken the government, and for this, such false information is being spread, which is a very unfortunate event. We have to protect our national interests so that there is no escalation in Georgia, which would be a serious problem for our country," said Kobakhidze.
