Anri Okhanashvili: If the President pardons Saakashvili and Gvaramia, on the one hand, the rule of law will be trampled, and on the other hand, our people will be insulted and humiliated

If the President takes such a decision, on the one hand, the rule of law will be trampled, and on the other hand, our people will be insulted and humiliated, and I do not rule out that there will be a protest, Chairman of the Legal Issues Committee of the Parliament, Anri Okhanashvili, responded to the question regarding the possible pardoning of Mikheil Saakashvili and Nika Gvaramia by Salome Zurabishvili.

According to Okhanashvili, it raises suspicions that the President's rhetoric has been changed".

"Any decision, including the issue of pardon, must be within the framework of the principle of the rule of law - it must have a purpose in accordance with the rule of law. If such a decision is made, on the one hand, the rule of law will be trampled. On the other hand, it will be an insult and humiliation of our people, and I do not exclude that appropriate protests will follow. This can lead to public uproar. If someone is ready, on the one hand, to trample on the rule of law, to question the institution of the president - as the essence of the constitutional institution, to insult the Georgian people and to mock the decisions of the Strasbourg court, then there will be a strong public protest. I don't think that it is in the interest of our country and that someone will dare to make such a decision", Anri Okhanashvili told journalists.
