I am addressing the chairman of the pro-Russian party Kobakhidze - Irakli, you have a simple choice, you either send the deoligarchization bill to the Venice Commission or you don't send it, which means you are rejecting the EU candidate status - that's it, period! - Strategy Builder leader Giorgi Vashadze stated at a briefing held in the Parliament.
According to Vashadze, the European Union, the USA, the civil sector and "even Varhelyi, who the representatives of the Georgian Dream love so much", request the Parliament of Georgia to send the draft law to the Venice Commission.
Vashadze also noted that Ukraine itself is not waiting for a conclusion from the Venice Commission on the adopted law on deoligarchization, and the issue regarding Ukraine has been removed from the agenda.
"The speculations of the pro-Russian Georgian Dream on the deoligarchization law have reached an unprecedented limit. All of Europe, all of the USA, all independent organizations in Georgia say that the law, which is absurd, but was registered and passed in two readings, should be sent to the Venice Commission. These people tell us tales so that they don't send the project to the Venice Commission. Accordingly, no matter whether Ukraine receives a conclusion, the issue is as follows - if the Parliament of Georgia does not send the law on deoligarchization to the Venice Commission, it means that they are taking a step towards the country not receiving the status of a candidate. The discussion is already on the kindergarten level - incredible absurdity is going around," said Giorgi Vashadze.
