Akaki Minashvili: The request by some members of the National Movement to hold elections for the chairman of the party and the political council is "a bit strange and regrettable” at such a time

09.11.22 15:30

According to Akaki Minashvili, a member of the National Movement, it was the initiative of the chairman of the party, Nika Melia, to hold elections at all levels in the National Movement after the resolution of the issue of the third president of the country, Mikheil Saakashvili.

According to him, the number one subject of discussion in the National Movement at the moment is the party's action plan regarding Mikheil Saakashvili, and at such a time, the request by some members of the National Movement to hold elections for the chairman of the party and the political council is "a bit strange and regrettable".

“Meetings have been going on very intensively within the National Movement for several weeks regarding the organization and plans of how the party should continue its activity. The main issue is the state of health of Mikheil Saakashvili, because you know that in the near future there will be a conclusion regarding his health. It is expected to be the most severe conclusion, which will be followed by a motion and a court decision. Therefore, the main concern in the National Movement has been what we should do in this regard. The whole party has been focused on this.

At the same time, at the same meeting, it was very clearly stated that after resolving this issue and taking specific steps, elections at all levels would be held in the National Movement – elections of the chairman, political council, secretariat, and this was first of all the initiative of Nika Melia. He spoke very publicly at these meetings, and not only at the meetings, he has also publicly said in programs and televisions that yes, elections are necessary, but there should be appropriate period for that," said Akaki Minashvili.
