Girchi - More Freedom, Strategy Builder and Droa release joint statement

09.11.22 14:20

Zura Japaridze, the leader of Girchi - More Freedom, Elene Khoshtaria, the leader of the Droa party, and Sergo Chikhladze, one of the leaders of Strategy Builder, issued a joint statement regarding the report on Georgia adopted by the European Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee.

As they said at the briefing, the Government does not intend to fulfill the 12 points laid down by the European Commission and deliberately refuses candidate status for EU membership.

According to them, the only way in the current situation is the consolidation of the majority of the pro-Western population and the political spectrum.

"The report supported yesterday by the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee is the first written document about Georgia supported by the European official structure, which proves that Georgian Dream does not intend to fulfill the 12 recommendations laid down by the European Commission for our country in the summer, thus they deliberately refuse candidate status for EU membership.

The report notes that no progress has been made with respect to the 12 points of the European Commission.

The European Parliament explains once again that there is only one oligarch in Georgia and that de-oligarchization means uprooting the excessive influence of former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili from the country's political, economic and public life. Accordingly, the adoption of the law, which does not concern Bidzina Ivanishvili, will not be considered as the fulfillment of the article on de-oligarchization.

For the first time, it is recorded in the official document of the European structure that the state institutions are seized and stagnation is observed in the fight against corruption. Instead of reforming the judicial system, regression is observed in a number of directions, such as the appointment of members of the High Council of Justice, or the process of nominating the Supreme Court judges. The report states that aggressive attacks by the leaders of Georgian Dream on MEPs, as well as on EU and US officials, are unacceptable. It is especially emphasized that the harmful rhetoric such as "the West wants to drag Georgia into the war" is harmful to European integration,'' reads the statement.

According to the authors, 4 months have passed since June 24 and instead of fulfilling the 12 recommendations, Georgian Dream took opposite steps, further aggravated the situation and further distanced us from the prospect of membership in the European family.

“In the current situation, the way to save the European future of the country is through the consolidation of the majority of the pro-Western population and the political spectrum and the removal of Georgian Dream from the government as quickly as possible", reads the joint statement of Girchi - More Freedom, Strategy Builder and Droa party.
