Minister of Health, Zurab Azarashvili, explains why the foreign doctor, who came to Georgia at his own expense to get involved in the case of Mikheil Saakashvili, was not given a license.

As the Minister stated in response to a relevant question at the briefing after the Government meeting, the documentation presented by the mentioned doctor did not correspond to the requested one.

"The regulatory agency and the special commission in the Ministry of Health oversee the right to practice medicine in Georgia. We do not grant visit rights to patients or prisoners. In this particular case, the submitted documentation did not correspond to the requested one, so the commission considered it inappropriate to grant the right to medical activity to this particular person.

The list of documents, which was necessary to present to obtain a license for medical activity, was incomplete, as far as I know, and that's why it could not be satisfied," said Zurab Azarashvili.

According to Shalva Khachapuridze, the lawyer of the third President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, a Nobel laureate doctor in the field of forensic medical examination, came to Georgia on his own initiative and at his own expense to be involved in Saakashvili's case, however, who is not allowed to visit the former President.

As Khachapuridze told the journalists, the Ministry of Health found a fault with him, as if he did not present documentation confirming his work in recent years.
