According to US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan, US officials are questioning the motives of those "who continue to repeat lies and conspiracy theories that are consistent with pro-Russian disinformation." Kelly Degnan stated about it on Mtavari TV.
As Degnan points out in the interview, there are questions as to why the ruling party and government are not distancing themselves from this disinformation.
"A number of senior officials in Washington have asked me questions about the motives of those who continue to repeat lies and conspiracy theories that are consistent with pro-Russian disinformation. There are also questions as to why the ruling party and government are not disancing themselves from this disinformation. Questions are raised about the motives of those who seek to sow confusion and further divide society. I think the real question is - what purpose does this serve, is it intended to try to damage the strong partnership that has existed between the United States and Georgia for 30 years? We have done a lot together and continue to have close and fruitful cooperation in many directions with the government and partners in various fields. Be it defense, security, economy, energy, education, public health or others. When I meet representatives of the Georgian government, be it the Prime Minister or others, we talk about the issues that are really important for the future of this country. I repeat again - these are the most important moments for Georgia. It has the possibility of receiving the status of a candidate country of the European Union. This is something that no one could have imagined last year, neither the government nor the people. Now is the time for everyone to focus on the implementation of the EU recommendations and show the EU that despite the differences, Georgia can unite and make it a priority for the country's future," said Kelly Degnan.
