13.09.22 16:00

The distribution of programs and advertisements containing hate speech and calls to terrorism will be prohibited.

This is one of the changes that are planned to be reflected in the Broadcasting law. The draft law has already been initiated in the Parliament and its initiators are Georgian Dream deputies.

According to the project, a special article is added to the Broadcasting Law, according to which it will be prohibited to broadcast such a program or advertisement that contains information inciting violence or hatred against a person or group based on disability, ethnic, social origin, gender, sex, gender identity, nationality, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, skin color, genetic characteristics, language, political or other opinion, membership of a national minority, property, birth or age, except where necessary due to the content of the program.

The same project prohibits the distribution of programs or advertisements that contain calls for terrorism.

In the explanatory note of the project, it is mentioned that in the EU member states, as a rule, the distribution of programs and advertisements containing hate speech and calls to terrorism, as well as issues related to the right of response, are regulated by the relevant regulatory bodies.
