Khatia Dekanoidze: The Georgian Dream is ready to change the procedure for appointing CEC chairman, which is alarming

According to Khatia Dekanoidze, one of the leaders of the National Movement, the pro-Western course of Georgia has been called into question during the rule of the Georgian Dream.

As she said at today's briefing, the Government is doing nothing to get candidate status and fulfill the 12 points laid down by the European Commission.

According to her, the ruling power chose closed formats and informal groups.

"The Georgian Dream still refuses to adopt the constitutional amendments, which is actually a big setback for the democratic process. Unfortunately, in this situation, the ruling power has chosen the complete opposite, i.e. closed formats, informal groups tailored to the ruling power, which are chaired by the representatives of the ruling power, which have no credibility and does not involve a large part of the civil sector," said Dekanoidze.

According to her, the Georgian Dream is only playing an imitative role in the process of fulfilling the 12 points, which was proved by the majority's statement yesterday.

"This statement was alarming. They are ready to change the procedure for appointing the chairman of the Central Election Commission, which is part of the Charles Michel agreement and implies the appointment of the chairman by votes. The ruling power is not interested in the electoral reform in accordance with the recommendations of the European Union, but in using the oligarchic system of elections as a lever to maintain power", said Dekanoidze.

The ruling party does not rule out changes in the procedure for electing the CEC chairman and the revision of the electoral legislation in this direction. As Irakli Kadagishvili, Chairman of the Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, told journalists yesterday regarding the rule of electing the CEC chairman of by 2/3 of votes, "some laws are vicious".
