Grigol Gegelia, one of the leaders of Lelo, the party's foreign secretary, assessed the statements made by Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze, saying that Kobakhidze is leading the Russian army towards Georgia.
According to Gegelia, the leader of the majority accuses peaceful people of wanting a war, but in fact he himself sows civil strife and deepens polarization.
"Irakli Kobakhidze has officially become the Sergo Orjonikidze of our time. Back in March and today, Kobakhidze gave the Russians a direct excuse for a possible invasion in Georgia by saying that Russians are being persecuted in Georgia on ethnic grounds. Russia has never needed more excuses than this during any military invasion. Kobakhidze repeated and strengthened the very rhetoric that the Kremlin used to justify its unprovoked military aggression against Georgia in 2008 and against Ukraine in 2022. Kobakhidze's guilt is twice as much serious, as he knows perfectly well what he is doing. This is neither an inadvertent mistake nor a misunderstanding of the issue. This is a well-thought-out execution of the Kremlin's scenario by the hands of the Georgian Dream. They accuse peace-loving people of wanting a war in order to satisfy their partisan-political interests, but in fact they themselves sow civil strife and deepen polarization. And now he is leading the Russian army towards Georgia. The Georgian Dream will pay the heaviest price for all this," Gegelia said.
Chairman of the Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party, Irakli Kobakhidze, said earlier today that the authors of the xenophobic campaign have nothing to do with true Georgian and European values; Xenophobia and chauvinism have never been and will never be a part of Georgian culture.
He called on everyone to distance themselves from the anti-state and discriminatory campaign, the sole purpose of which is to turn Georgia into a second front.
According to him, the people who introduced visa-free travel regime for Russian citizens partially in 2010 and fully in February 2012, 3 years after the end of the Russian-Georgian war, are today demanding the introduction of visa regime for Russian citizens.
