Salome Zurabishvili: May 26 is a day of reflection and understanding, we must ask ourselves whether we are doing everything the way the country needs - it is more up to us who are standing on the other side of the rostrum to contemplate

May 26 is not just a day to revive the past, nor is it a normal holiday, it is a day of reflection and understanding! It is a day when we should think about our country and ask ourselves whether we are doing everything that this country needs, its future, the well-being of the population, its independence and freedom, said the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili at the event dedicated to Independence Day.

According to the President, on May 26, the Georgian nation decided to live in a free, independent country once and for all.

"Dear compatriots! Congratulations on Georgia's Independence Day! Congratulations especially on Independence Day to those of you who take an oath for the homeland today. The Georgian military was characterized by the ability to fight, responsibility, self-sacrifice and loyalty to the oath! Today, you have become part of such a dignified military history and will continue this tradition with dignity. You know and are well aware that defending the independence and freedom of a country is not an easy task and requires dignity and dedication.

On May 26, the Georgian nation decided once and for all to live in a free, independent country; Thus, the Georgian nation, once and for all, refused to be part of another country, slavery.

May 26 is not just a day to revive the past, nor is it a normal holiday, it is a day of reflection and understanding! A day when we should think about our country and ask ourselves if we are doing everything we need to do for this country, its future, the well-being of its people, its independence and its freedom.

This question should be asked by everyone, every citizen, every child of this country, living here or abroad. For this is what independence means, the future of our children is in our hands! No one can avoid this responsibility.

However, obviously, it is more up to us, who stand on the other side of the rostrum, to contemplate, for we have more responsibilities. This responsibility is intensified, because Georgia is once again standing at a crossroads, as at many crucial moments in its history. We are faced with a time of new opportunities and new challenges, it requires from us, with caution, certain answers, readiness, foresight, vision of the future and courage. It requires, first of all - and I will say this as many times as the case requires - unity," the President said.
