"The Georgian Government will pay special attention to the issues related to Ivanishvili, because he is a citizen of Georgia and has many important merits before the country - the opposition's attempt to link the issue of transactions to sanctions and the United States is unacceptable to me," Vice-Speaker of Parliament Archil Talakvadze stated.
According to Talakvadze, the United States is Georgia's number one strategic partner, while the opposition is distinguished by its anti-Western rhetoric.
"Ivanishvili is out of politics, he is a philanthropist, a free man and a citizen of Georgia. Naturally, we, the Georgian Government, will pay special attention to the issues related to him, because he is a citizen of Georgia and has many and important merits before the country. I am sure all the details related to the transactions will be clarified. Ivanishvili had, as you know, a dispute with this bank, which he won in the International Court of Justice and it was proved that his rights were violated by this bank. What we are dealing with and why these transactions were delayed, I am sure, will become clear in the near future.
As for the attempts of the opposition and opposition groups to somehow link this issue to sanctions and the United States, it is unacceptable and unbelievable to me. The US is Georgia's number one strategic partner and these speculations from the UNM are not new. They have repeatedly attacked representatives of the United States, the ambassador, the ambassadors of the European Union," Talakvadze said.
