Did Armenian planes fly to bomb Ukraine?

30.03.22 18:00

There is information that Armenia, in fact, joined Russia's aggression against Ukraine. Haber Global TV channel reported with reference to Turkish intelligence data that four Su-30 combat planes took off from Armenia on March 25, 2022 and headed to Russia for further transfer to Ukraine. Moreover, the fighters are flown by Armenian pilots.

If this information is confirmed, then Armenia has become an accomplice to the war in Ukraine. However, this is not surprising if we consider that the second and the third persons in the Russian state hierarchy - the prime minister and the foreign minister are ethnic Armenians and the dominance of the Armenian lobby at the top of Russia is total.

However, the Defense Ministry of Armenia hastened to refute the information about the transfer of Su-30s to Russia for the war in Ukraine. According to the ministry, "all the planes together with the personnel are on the ground and are carrying out their tasks. But in response to this assertion, the Azerbaijani media gave reasons for its veracity and suggested that the Armenian side demonstrate its Su-30s from today's date. After all, no video footage with reference to time and place proving that the Su-30s are where they should be to the public and the media of the Armenian Defense Ministry did not show any video footage with reference to time and place proving that the Su-30s are where they should be to the public and the media.

The question arises: how reliable is the information about the use of aircraft by Armenia against Ukraine?

To begin with, the information was provided to journalists by a source in Turkish intelligence, and Turkish intelligence does not make such leaks without good reason, despite the fact that Turkey has not yet fully joined the Western sanctions against Russia, trying to be an intermediary between Russia and Ukraine.

Turkey has more than good reasons to tell the truth about Armenia's participation in the aggression against Ukraine. Firstly, the activation of the unready "Artsakh" separatists in Karabakh, Azerbaijan, and secondly, the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine scheduled for March 29-30, 2022 in Istanbul with the mediation of Turkey. The Turkish side knows very well what influence the Armenian lobby has on the Kremlin's policy. That is why Ankara decided to let the Armenian figures know that they are aware of Armenia's "allied" assistance to Russia.

Meanwhile, it was exactly today that Russia needed such help. According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Russian Federation has lost 123 aircraft since the beginning of the aggression, of which presumably at least two are Su-30s. Ukrainian air defense is still not suppressed and is very effective against aerial targets, intercepting most Russian missiles and causing problems for Russian aviation. Russian forces in Ukraine are in need of new modern aircraft to "compensate" for their losses. And here the help of the Yerevan "allies" proves to be very necessary.

As a reminder, four Su-30 fighters are the most modern aircraft of the Armenian Air Force and the most expensive purchase made by Serzh Sargsyan on the eve of the change of power in Armenia in 2018. They are considered as the competitors of modern American fighters F-14 and F-15. The aforementioned four Su-30 combat aircrafts were handed over to Armenia after Nikol Pashinyan came to power in May 2020. However, during the 44-day war, the Armenian army could not use them because, according to the Armenian side, these planes were not equipped with missiles at that time. However, for Russia, equipping "Armenian" Su-30s with missiles is not a problem.

Armenia helps Russia not only with planes. There is information that it is involved in the transfer of Syrian mercenaries to Ukraine. Recruited fighters gather at the Erebuni airbase in the Republic of Armenia, and from there they are sent to Mozdok in the North Caucasus, and then to Ukraine. This is to say nothing of Armenian volunteer fighters both from Armenia and from occupied Georgian Abkhazia, who are also fighting in Ukraine on the side of Russian aggressors.

If the information about the participation of Su-30s of the Armenian Air Force in the war in Ukraine is confirmed, it means that Armenia is in fact as much an aggressor against the sovereign state of Ukraine as Russia and should also fall under the sanctions of the world community.
