"We must teach our children very clearly and unequivocally the truth that Russia is an aggressor and has attacked Georgia - the entry in the textbook allows for a different interpretation," said Levan Ioseliani, a Citizens' MP and vice-speaker.
As he pointed out, any record that allows him to interpret this issue is unacceptable to him.
"I do not see a problem if all the leaders of the recent history are included in this textbook: Ivanishvili, Saakashvili, Shevardnadze, Zviad Gamsakhurdia. If it's about everyone, then he was the first person in this country and it is logical, so be it. If it's only about Ivanishvili, then this is incomprehensible, it is unacceptable to single out one person, when Georgia had other first persons in modern history.
Any entry that raises some questions about the start of the war, the Russian aggression, is very unacceptable to me. We must teach our children very clearly and unequivocally the truth that Russia is an aggressor, Russia attacked Georgia and Georgia simply had no other choice than it did in 2008. I would like this entry to be worded differently, this entry allows for a different interpretation. The best and most genuine judge is time, time will pass and everything will be written correctly, therefore, no matter what is written now, no one can rewrite history", Ioseliani said.
For reference, part of the community is demanding the removal of the 9th grade history textbook from the program. Their claim is related to the subsections related to the August war, the "Rose Revolution" and Bidzina Ivanishvili. According to part of the society, the book is propagandistic and praises the current government, while the role of the "Rose Revolution" in the country's political processes is diminished and presented in a more negative context.
