" A bone" from Britain to Armenia and Armen Sarkisian

13.11.21 15:25

" Don’t put all your eggs in one basket" is a long-standing principle of British politics. It is precisely because of this that London is able to defend its interests in different countries. And the "Armenian project", which has been closely supervised by Britain for a very long time, also has figures long associated with it. This is primarily the current president of Armenia, Armen Sarkisian, about whom Caucasusplus has already written in the article "Armenian president Armen Sarkissian is an "indicator" of the attitude of global players to separatism". (https://kavkazplus.com/news.php?id=34473 )..

Britain in fact supported Azerbaijan in this 44-day war, and not only "morally". It suffices to recall that the famous Turkish Bayraktar drones were largely produced with Canadian components, and the head of Canada is still the British queen. For the Armenian lobby, all this was also obvious, so anti-British sentiment among Armenians intensified.

However, Britain is not about to lose its position in Armenia. Therefore, immediately after the surrender in the 44-day war, Baroness Caroline Cox, a long-time lobbyist for Armenian interests in London, a member of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, arrived in Yerevan despite her advanced age (83 at the time). She was welcomed by Armen Vardani Sarkissian, the President of Armenia. It was probably already agreed at the time that there would be a "moral" but "handout" from Britain to Armenia in order to make up for the bitterness of defeat in Karabakh.

A year later, the promised "bone" was thrown to Yerevan from London. Prior to that, a similar "bone" was thrown by US President Joe Biden, mentioning the word "genocide" in reference to the events of 1915 on 24 April this year. And now, on 9 November 2021, a bill to acknowledge the so-called "Armenian genocide" has passed its first reading in the House of Commons of the British Parliament.

The British Parliament's decision was cheerfully announced by the United Kingdom's Armenian National Committee on Facebook:

"Today is a historical day in regards to the Armenian question. During the first hearing of the bill on the 'Armenian genocide' there were no objections. The next hearing will take place on 18 March 2022. We thank Tim Lawton and the co-sponsors of the bill for this success," the statement says.

The bill was introduced by Conservative MP Tim Lawton, who heads the UK-Armenia inter-parliamentary group and, along with Caroline Ann Cox, is considered the most active lobbyist for Armenian interests in the UK.

The draft proposes that the British government formally recognize the Armenian genocide of 1915-1923, establish a procedure for remembering the victims, and stimulate greater awareness of these tragic events.

Yet, in essence, the first hearing, with recognition of the Armenian "genocide" by the British Parliament, could be the end of it. Even pro-Armenian lobbyists and Armenian nationalists themselves are quite doubtful about the likelihood of the law being passed in its second reading.

Kiro Manoyan, head of the political department of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun, believes that although the "genocidal" bill was passed without a single objection, it is difficult to say whether it will be passed in the second hearing. The politician recalls that quite recently a similar resolution was also submitted to the Knesset, the legislative body of Israel, and there the matter stalled.

"It seems possible that both countries will decide to use this as leverage against Turkey and then do everything possible to ensure that the bill [in the UK] and the resolution [in Israel] fail. What matters is what steps local Armenian communities and Armenia itself will now take to make progress," says Kiro Manoyan.

The "genocidal" bill will also be considered in the upper house of the British parliament, the House of Lords, where not everyone is as "enthusiastic" a fan of Armenia as Caroline Ann Cox. Only after the approval of the House of Lords will the bill come into force, but it is unlikely to come to that.

Actually, both Armenian politicians and the Armenian people should have realized long ago that they are simply being "played" with the myth of "genocide" that they believe in. This myth, along with the myth of a "great Armenia", is driving Armenians to disaster.

The 44-day war also resulted in Azerbaijan receiving full recognition from its Western "partners" of the legitimacy of the return of its lands. And what did Armenia receive? Defeat, humiliation, colossal human losses and as "consolation" from the USA and Great Britain worthless not even "recognition of the genocide", but hints that sometime in the future they may recognize this notorious "genocide". They have "thrown a bone", so to speak.

However, even the formal recognition of the mythical "Armenian genocide" will actually do nothing for Armenia itself. Will the lie about the events of more than 100 years ago, even if there will be some acts of other countries' parliaments about it, help Armenian economy in any way to stop the devastation of Armenia? Of course not!

Armenians need to come to terms and co-operate with their neighbouring peoples. And regarding the events of 1915. Turkey has long offered to open all the archives and soberly investigate this age, without hysterics and propagandistic accusations, in order to come to an agreement. But the thing is that the Armenian side does not want to open its archives. Why? Obviously because the myth of "genocide", on which Armenian nationalist propaganda is built, will be completely debunked.
