Irakli Gharibashvili: I have finished talking about the prisoner and prisoners

11.11.21 13:00

I have finished talking about the prisoner and prisoners, - the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili said in response to a question about the case of Mikheil Saakashvili.

As Gharibashvili noted, the Minister of Justice will make explanations about the decision of the Strasbourg Court.

"We have read the decision of the Strasbourg Court. The Minister of Justice will hold a briefing on this topic in the next few hours and will make detailed explanations. I do not wish to comment on this topic. This is not my prerogative. I have finished talking about the prisoner and prisoners. There are a lot of problems in the country and I only talk and concentrate on the problems," Gharibashvili said.

"We’ve received a decision from Strasbourg that Saakashvili's case has been given priority - our request for a temporary measure has been granted," Nika Gvaramia, a lawyer for former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, said at a briefing earlier.

According to Gvaramia, the court instructed the Georgian authorities to provide detailed information about Mikheil Saakashvili’s state of health and all the medical procedures performed in Gldani facility No 18.

As Gvaramia noted at the briefing, the Strasbourg Court also called on Mikheil Saakashvili to call off the hunger strike.

"The court also called on Mikheil Saakashvili to call off the hunger strike, thus acknowledges the fact that the third president of Georgia is on hunger strike.

Therefore, this puts an end to the mythological statements of the Georgian government that he is not on hunger strike. The court instructed the Georgian authorities to immediately report on the current state of Mikheil Saakashvili's health and also to provide detailed information on all the medical procedures performed at Gldani Establishment No 18,” Nika Gvaramia said.
