The State Inspector's Office assessed the publication of video recordings showing the movement of TV Pirveli cameraman Lekso Lashkarava as a violation of personal data protection.
The relevant statement has been issued by the State Inspector's Office, which explained that the Ministry of Internal Affairs was fined GEL 2,000. In addition, administrative liability was imposed on the medical institution, which was fined GEL 500.
According to the information, none of the videos released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs could answer the main question in the society regarding the specific cause of death. In addition, according to the agency, the connection between the mentioned records and the death of Lekso Lashkarava was not explained at the briefings either.
According to the State Inspector's Office, the circumstances revealed as a result of the examination indicate that Lekso Lashkarava’s personal data were disclosed by an employee (s) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
In addition, affording to the State Inspector's Office, the Ministry obtained one of the video recordings without the relevant legal grounds.
“As none of the videos released by the Ministry on July 11, 2021 could answer the main question of the society regarding the specific cause of death and at the same time, as no connection between the recordings and Alexander (Lexo) Lashkarava's death was explained neither at the briefings, the disclosure of the video recordings of was assessed as a violation of the principle of data processing provided for in Article 4 (b) of the Law of Georgia on Personal Data Protection’, the State Inspector's Office said.
