BDO joins United Nations Global Compact

05.08.21 11:10

BDO in Georgia continues to integrate sustainable development principles into the company business model and joins the United Nations Global Compact (UNDC).

With this step the company declares the responsibility to act according to the UNGC 10 principles in the fields of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption and contribute to the delivery of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Zurab Lalazashvili, Managing Partner of BDO says: "Sustainability matters have long been the foundation of all material corporate decisions made by us as an organization. In fact UNGC membership is a logical and important progression of BDO’s cherished mission of 21 years – helping our communities thrive. My understanding is that for businesses to realize how much we can contribute to delivering the SDGs on economic, social and ecological levels, will most likely shape our future. And if we want to make sure to provide a decent future for the next generations, we need to prompt major changes, revaluations if you will, of attitudes. Tackling sustainability issues on a bigger scale seems only realistic through the strong network of competent players. The UNGC offers a powerful platform for this which I believe will help us contribute to solutions on a global level.“

UN Global Compact is the world's largest initiative for companies that acknowledge their overall social responsibility and contribute to the development of markets for the benefit of the economy and society through the development, implementation, and dissemination of responsible corporate governance. Discussions, sharing experience and best practices among the members can make real progress towards a sustainable future.

By joining the UN Global Compact, BDO joins the companies and organizations across the globe who proclaim their responsibility to introduce 10 universal sustainability principles in everyday work and commit to the delivery of UN’s 17 SGDs.

The company recognizes the importance of these interdependent goals and declares that at this point BDO can make most significant contribution towards the achievement of eight of them and present the progress report according to the international standards. Approaches pertinent to these eight goals are already part of how the company works and are subject to proper measurement and monitoring.

Here are the SDGs BDO currently commits to as an organization:

SDG 1: No poverty
SDG 2: Zero hunger
SDG 3: Good health and well-being
SDG 4: Quality education
SDG 5: Gender equality
SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth
SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production
SDG 15: Life on land

Apart from the proclaimed commitments, BDO offers professional support to businesses who are willing to introduce sustainability principle in their everyday work.

BDO will be offering companies help to obtain more information on how to ensure compliance with SDGs, develop sustainability KPIs and implement integrated reporting to be able to provide quality information on their work to the stakeholders.
