Kelly Degnan: We encourage all parties and all members of parliament to come into ParliamentAccording to the US Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan, an important step has been taken with the release of Nika Melia, the chairman of the United National Movement.
“We encourage all of the parties, all of the MPs to enter parliament and continue the hard work to finish implementing this agreement. We're very encouraged to see the parties negotiating over the weekend. I understand they're going to continue those negotiations on electoral reform. This is an essential element of the April 19 agreement, and in ensuring that the October local elections will run smoothly and will have the full confidence of voters.
The essential element of the agreement was judicial process. This process needs to have full confidence of the public, and other political parties, and that's why we encourage all parties and all members of parliament to come into Parliament. This has been our consistent message since the parliamentary elections. We are convinced that that is a right place to do this hard work to improve the judicial system, the electoral system, and to ensure that Georgians can have confidence in the outcomes of their elections and in the decisions of their courts”, said the Ambassador.
