Filmmaker Ramaz Khotivari dies at 74

Organisations and personalities of the Georgian film scene on Thursday made tributes to filmmaker Ramaz Khotivari, a teacher and member of various professional creative organisations after his passing at age 74.

The culture ministry and the Georgian National Film Centre announced the director's passing away to their social media followers, paying tribute to the creative who produced fiction and documentary works and taught cinematic art to young generations.

 

Graduating from the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film State University and the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography in the Soviet era, Khotivari produced films including Adventures of Lazare, Gospel of Mark and Dimitri II.

 

The work on shooting stage was flanked by membership and leading of studios and unions of cinema creatives, including the Georgian Film and Mematiane studios, the youth union of Georgian Film 'Adam and Eve' and the 'Moon Globe' British-Georgian studio.

 

Khotivari worked to teach filmmaking students as emeritus at the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgia State University and led the Georgian Cinema Academy as president since 2019.
