Tamar Gabunia: The PM did not belong to any of the priority groups and we did not consider it appropriate to carry out vaccination for public promotion purposes only

"The PM did not belong to any of the groups for which vaccination is a priority, and we did not consider it appropriate to carry out vaccination for public promotion purposes only," said Deputy Minister of Health, Tamar Gabunia.

According to her, the risk is everywhere and anyone can be infected with the virus.

"Information has already been spread by the Georgian governmental administration that the Georgian Prime Minister has tested positive for coronavirus. The condition is satisfactory and he will, of course, undergo all the appropriate treatments. His treatment continues in self-isolation.

As you know, our vaccination plan follows the stages of very strictly defined age groups. Vaccination of healthcare professionals is a priority. The Prime Minister did not belong to any of the groups for which the vaccination is defined as a priority according to the plan, so we did not consider it expedient to conduct vaccination only for the purposes of public promotion.

Unfortunately, the country is in the early stages of vaccination and only particularly high-risk groups are being vaccinated. As we can see, the risk is everywhere and, unfortunately, the infection can affect everyone," said Tamar Gabunia.
