At the initiative of the Minister of Justice of Georgia, for the purpose of improving the electoral lists, the certain categories of citizens will be exempted from the payment of the ID card fees.
According to the Press Office of the Ministry of Justice, till November 1, 2020, the following citizens can get their IDs free of charge:
Adult Georgian citizens who have not received any document asserting Georgian citizenship till now; Also, juveniles who will be 18 years old, until November 1, 2020;
Adults whose all IDs issued to them have been annulled before 1 July 2019, or will be annulled until 1 November 2020;
Citizens whose photographs of identification documents are inappropriate (poor quality) or are not stored in the respective database;
Persons removed from the registration, if they will be registered at the correct address before the election;
Citizens registered without the address if they will be registered at the correct address before the election;
Those persons who are registered in the occupied territory of Georgia and do not have the status of internally displaced persons; At the same time, their ID cards are annulled and are registered at the particular address of the controlled territory of Georgia.
As a result of measures taken by the Minister of Justice, the potential voters’ databases have been significantly improved over the last 5 years; Electronic ID cards have been issued to more than 3 020 000 citizens; Around 1 630 000IDs have been issued free of charge.
